Magic Downloads vs Physical Tricks: Which Should You Buy?

A physical trick ships to you with the props or gimmicks you need. A download or streaming product is video instruction you access instantly. It usually teaches magic with everyday objects, but sometimes requires a prop you supply yourself. Choose physical for a ready-made prop, and digital for instant access, lower cost, and learning technique.

The key differences

	Physical trick	Download / streaming
What you get	Props or gimmicks, usually with instructions	Video instruction
Delivery	Shipped (see delivery times)	Instant access
Typical price	Higher, because of materials	Often lower
Props needed	Included	Everyday objects, or you supply them
Returns	Per our refund policy	Final sale

When to choose a physical trick

• The effect depends on a specially made gimmick you can't make yourself.
• You want something ready to perform with little effort.
• You're giving it as a gift and want something to wrap. See our magic gifts guide.

When to choose a download

• You want to start today.
• You want to learn technique that works with borrowed or everyday objects.
• You're on a budget, or it's a last-minute gift.

Watch for "gimmick included" vs. "instructions only"

Some tricks are sold in two versions: a physical version that includes the gimmick, and a download with instructions only. For example, In A Flash (Gimmick Included) ships with its gimmick, while In A Flash is the download. Always check the title and description so you know exactly what you're getting.
