What is a D’Lite?

A D’Lite is a soft, flesh-coloured thumb tip with a small light built into its end. Worn on the thumb, it lets you produce a glowing light at your fingertips, pass it from hand to hand, throw it, and make it vanish. It is one of the best-known close-up and stage effects in magic, and you can perform it the moment it arrives.

D’Lites and Prisma Lites

“D’Lite” is the name most people search for, and “Prisma Lites” is the range sold under Rocco’s name today. Both do the same job: a light-up thumb tip you switch on and off as you perform. Within the Prisma Lites range you will find:

  • Super Bright — the brightest light, the one to choose for stage or a room with the lights on.
  • Junior — a smaller tip for smaller hands, which suits younger magicians.
  • Sound — a light that plays a sound effect as it appears.
  • Morphing — a light that changes colour while you hold it.
  • Pairs and singles — a pair lets the light travel between both hands.

Which D’Lite should I buy?

For a first set, buy a pair. Most routines pass the light from one hand to the other, and that needs one tip on each thumb. Pick red or white for the classic look, or a colour to match a theme. If you will perform in bright rooms or on stage, choose a Super Bright model.

Questions, answered.

What is D’Lite magic?

D’Lite magic is the effect of producing a bright light at your fingertips from apparently empty hands. It is done with a light-up thumb tip, so the light can appear, travel between your hands and vanish whenever you choose.

Are D’Lites and Prisma Lites the same thing?

They are the same kind of prop: a thumb tip with a built-in light. D’Lite is the name most people know, and Prisma Lites is the range sold under Rocco’s name, with Super Bright, Junior, Sound and Morphing versions.

Should I buy a single or a pair?

Buy a pair for most routines. With one tip on each thumb, the light can travel from hand to hand. A single is fine for a quick appearance and vanish, or as a spare.

Are D’Lites good for beginners?

Yes. There is no sleight of hand to learn before you can use one. Switch it on, practise the timing of showing and hiding the light, and you can perform it the same day.

Do D’Lites work in a bright room?

They work best in dim light. In a bright room or on stage, choose a Super Bright model so the light still reads clearly from a distance.
